Athens in April (1 Views)

Our big annual trip this year is to Greece, and our first stop on the tour is Athens. Here are a few of the highlights.

There are a few “must do” things when anyone visits Athens. Right at the top of the list is a visit to the Acropolis, one of the seven wonders of the world. I don’t think it’s possible for anyone to visit this site without wondering how in the heck they even got the giant stones to the top of this hill, much less built huge structures up there. It was very cool, and here are a few obligatory photos.

First, the Parthenon as shot from the front right corner.

This next shot is a panoramic view of Athens from the Acropolis.

The View From the Acropolis

This is a panoramic view of the Dionysus Amphitheatre which is kind of built into the hill on the way to the top.

We also wandered around downtown Athens and visited the tomb of the unknown soldier. Elite Greek guards stand watch 24 hours a day, and as you can see they are decorated in traditional garb. Don’t let the skirts and frilly stuff fool you, these are tough manly men who can kick your ass. In fact, the minimum height requirement to be one of these guys is 6 foot. I had to look up at every one of them I saw, and I’m 6′1″.
